Sampath Bank PLC, established in 1987 in Sri Lanka, operates a network of 229 branches and 373 ATMs across the island. Recognized for its achievements, the bank received consecutive "Bank of the Year" awards from "The Banker" of Financial Times Limited – London and the "National Business Excellence Awards 2010." Initially incorporated as Investment and Credit Bank Limited in 1988, it later adopted the name Sampath. The bank pioneered ATM banking in Sri Lanka with the introduction of "Sampath Electronic Teller" in 1988. Noteworthy milestones include launching MasterCard in 1989, introducing debit cards in South Asia in 1997, and initiating the first-ever Cheque Imaging & Truncating site in 2004.
