Originating in 1967 with Lanka Medicals pharmacy, it expanded with the opening of a 'super centre' in Kandy in 1977. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017, Sunshine Holdings was the 16th largest conglomerate in Sri Lanka in 2019. The company diversified by acquiring Daintee, a confectionery manufacturer, for LKR 1.7 billion in 2020, aiming to expand beyond its flagship brand, Watawala tea. Additionally, it merged its healthcare business with Akbar Brothers healthcare division. |
